🧠 Problem Title: Invisible Microplastics in Drinking Water: A Hidden Health Hazard
📝 Problem Description

Microplastics are tiny plastic particles less than 5 millimeters in size. They are created when larger plastic waste, such as bags, bottles, packaging, or synthetic clothing fibers, break down into smaller pieces due to exposure to sunlight, friction, and water. These particles are now commonly found in oceans, rivers, and even tap water supplied to homes. Recent studies and global reports have confirmed the presence of microplastics in treated drinking water. This means that even after filtration and purification, tiny plastic particles still enter our homes and are consumed unknowingly. These particles are so small that most conventional water filters. Sources of microplastics in water include: Washing synthetic clothes (nylon, polyester), which release fibers into wastewater, Breakdown of packaging and plastic pipes Cosmetics and cleaning agents containing microbeads Industrial waste and runoff that isn’t filtered properly. The health impact of consuming microplastics is still being studied, but early research shows alarming possibilities. These include: Disruption of hormonal systems, Inflammation in organs and tissues, Absorption of toxic chemicals that microplastics carry,Unknown long-term effects on digestion, immunity and development and This issue is particularly concerning because microplastics are invisible to the naked eye, so people are not aware they are consuming them daily. Moreover, most awareness campaigns focus on plastic pollution in oceans, not household-level risks from tap wate and This problem is urgent yet under-discussed. In urban areas, people believe treated water is completely safe. In rural areas, water sources are even less regulated, making the risk higher. Yet, few accessible solutions exist to detect or remove microplastics in regular households.
