🧠 Problem Title: The Unfulfilled Promise of Waste Segregation in Urban India
📝 Problem Description

A Case Study of Rajamahendravaram India stands at a critical juncture in its journey towards sustainable urban development, facing an ever-growing challenge in the management of solid waste generated by its expanding cities. The sheer volume of waste, propelled by rapid urbanization and economic growth, places immense pressure on existing waste management systems, demanding innovative and effective solutions. The consequences of inadequate waste management extend far beyond mere aesthetics, posing significant threats to public health, environmental integrity, and economic stability . Many urban centers across the nation are actively exploring and implementing various strategies to address this complex problem.Within this national context, the city of Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh has taken notable steps to improve its solid waste management practices. Since January 2022, the city has implemented a system requiring households to segregate their waste into wet and dry categories . This initiative aligns with the national mandate for source segregation as outlined in the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 . Furthermore, demonstrating a financial commitment towards these efforts, the Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation collects user charges from both households and commercial establishments, with residential properties paying ₹90 per month and traders contributing between ₹150 and ₹400 depending on their scale of operation . In a move to enhance collection efficiency, the corporation has invested in 95 mini vans for door-to-door garbage pickup and has strategically removed public dustbins from all city wards . The remaining three centers are reported to be operating at only partial capacity, severely limiting the citys ability to effectively process its organic waste. This underutilization of processing facilities, despite the segregation of wet waste by residents, highlights a critical gap in the citys waste management system.
