I brainstormed for days on issues like traffic congestion, pollution, littering, red-light jumping, reckless driving, corruption, rising crime, lawlessness, casteism, and religious discrimination. At first, they seemed different, but when i analyzed them deeply they all connect to one root cause. Lack of Civic Sense in Indian People. People complain about traffic but jump red lights, drive on footpaths, and block roads for their convenience. Public spaces are littered because people think, Yeh mera kaam nahi hai (This is not my job), yet they criticize dirty streets. Everyone wants change, but no one wants to change themselves. This selfishness extends to corruption people blame the system yet pay bribes to escape rules. Crime rises because people think, If everyone is taking advantage, why shouldn’t I? Even casteism and religious discrimination stem from an Us vs. Them mindset, dividing people instead of uniting them as citizens. A major cause is the Not My Problem mentality someone sees an accident but walks away, thinking, Mujhe kyun padna? (Why should I get involved?). Another harmful mindset is crab mentality if someone tries to bring change, others pull them down instead of supporting them. This lack of civic sense not only harms India internally but also damages its reputation globally. Many Indians follow rules abroad but break them at home. Incidents of littering, spitting, and misbehavior overseas make headlines, reinforcing stereotypes of India as an undisciplined country. This makes it harder for Indians to gain respect internationally. At the root of traffic violations, crime, pollution, and corruption is selfishness and disregard for society.
