In many schools, students bring lunch from home or buy it from the canteen. However, a significant portion of this food is often thrown away, either because students don’t like the food, are distracted while eating, or are given more than they can consume. This daily wastage not only disrespects the effort and money spent on preparing the food, but it also adds to the school’s garbage and environmental problems. Despite being taught about hunger and poverty, students are not actively encouraged or given options to manage leftover food. Moreover, there is no organized system for redistributing untouched food or tracking the daily waste. By noticing how much food is wasted during lunch breaks and thinking about why it happens, we can begin to look for practical solutions.
