I have identified a recurring respiratory hazard in classrooms: the release of fine particulate matter during the use and erasure of traditional chalk. Every time a blackboard is erased, a concentrated cloud of Calcium Carbonate dust is suspended at the breathing level of students and teachers. My observation shows that dustless chalk is a misnomer; it simply creates heavier particles that still settle on surfaces, skin, and eyes, while a significant portion of fine dust remains airborne for the entire duration of a 40-minute period."
