In thousands of Indian apartment complexes, rooftop downspouts empty pure rainwater directly onto paved courtyards, channeling it into sewage drains. Simultaneously, these same buildings pay for expensive water tankers to meet daily needs. This "catchment-to-drain" design functionally disconnects the building’s primary water source from its storage. It exacerbates urban water scarcity, causes localized flooding, and turns a free, life-sustaining resource into a wasted urban nuisance through a massive architectural oversight.
