Manual wheelchair users, particularly elderly individuals, must continuously push their wheels to move through daily environments such as roads, hospitals, and public restrooms. These surfaces are often contaminated with dust, dirt, and harmful microorganisms. Because propulsion requires direct hand contact with the wheels, users repeatedly transfer contaminants from the environment to their hands. This creates a persistent cycle of exposure, increasing the risk of infections and compromising hygiene. Limited access to immediate hand-cleaning options further worsens the issue, making everyday mobility a potential health hazard.
