While attending an event at another school, I observed a scene that is now common everywhere: a massive pile of single-use plastic bottles and plates discarded right next to the playground. This highlighted a universal crisis that goes far beyond just "litter." These plastics never truly disappear; instead, they break down into microscopic particles called microplastics that enter our soil, our water sources, and ultimately, our food chain. We are living in a "Plastic Paradox" where the material we use for convenience for five minutes remains as a poison in our environment for five centuries. This is not just a waste management issue; it is a global health emergency that is silently contaminating the bodies of every living being on Earth.
