In today’s time, misinformation is widely spread with or without the awareness of society. The lack of the ability to differentiate between reliable and false information is the root cause that drives its rapid spread. Misinformation was listed as one of the global risks by the World Economic Forum in its 2024 Global RIsks Report., Firstly, misinformation begins with a small group of people, social media amplifies it. This amplification does not only disturb the virtual world, but real life as well. In the world of politics, this can damage the trust of citizens with governments, media and science as well. This manipulates elections, public opinion and eventually the state of a country. The growth of AI enables more believable fake news to be spread. As time progresses, this issue only grows silently without awareness, The main goal isnt to trick people, it’s to make people mistrusting and fragile. The less informed society is, the more vulnerable they become to the ever changing conditions of the world! It’s even more difficult to question information that affirms what people believe or lends itself as proof to an argument they’re making. An example of the source of misinformation in day to day life, could be a person who had witnessed a car accident on their way home from work. When they later hear a news report stating that the driver was speeding, they might later add that detail to their recollection of the event, even if that wasnt what actually happened., Seeing the impact ranging from rumours to life-threatening, in various aspects of life, this problem must not be overlooked!
