Dass Garden is a busy residential colony with narrow streets, active local markets, and constant pedestrian movement of school kids and senior citizens. Lately, an alarming and dangerous trend has emerged here: commercial passenger E-rickshaws are being openly driven by underage children aged between 10 to 14 years. These young kids completely lack the physical strength, mental maturity, legal eligibility, and formal training required to control a heavy motorized vehicle loaded with passengers.
This is a multi-layered crisis. First, it is a blatant violation of Section 4 of the Motor Vehicles Act (driving without a license) and Child Labor laws. Since these minors have no valid documentation, there is absolutely no legal accountability or insurance backup if a major accident occurs.
Second, it poses an immediate danger to everyone on the road. E-rickshaws have a high center of gravity and can easily overturn. When these untrained kids navigate deep potholes, take sharp turns, or drive recklessly on the wrong side of the road, the vehicle is always on the verge of rolling over. Local residents, especially elderly citizens, live in constant fear due to daily near-miss situations.
Furthermore, to maximize daily earnings, these children severely overload the rickshaws with passengers or heavy goods, massively increasing the risk of immediate brake failure. The actual adult owners of these vehicles deliberately exploit these kids for cheap labor, knowing they wont demand fair wages. This dangerous practice is robbing these kids of their education and health, while turning our colony lanes into a hazard zone. A major fatal accident is waiting to happen, and we urgently need law enforcement to intervene.
