Air conditioners, generators, vehicles, factories, and other machines release large amounts of heat into the environment every day. In cities and crowded areas, this heat gets trapped between concrete buildings and roads, making nearby places much hotter than normal. Areas near AC outdoor units, markets, apartments, and commercial buildings often remain extremely warm, even at night.
As temperatures rise, more people use cooling systems such as air conditioners. However, while these machines cool indoor spaces, they release hot air outside, increasing outdoor temperatures further. This creates a cycle where hotter surroundings lead to even greater use of cooling devices.
This problem commonly occurs in urban areas with heavy traffic, large buildings, and limited greenery. It affects pedestrians, street vendors, delivery workers, shopkeepers, students, and people living in densely populated places. In low-income areas and places with poor ventilation, the impact can become even more severe.
Excess heat can cause discomfort, dehydration, fatigue, and higher electricity consumption. It also contributes to the urban heat island effect, where cities become significantly hotter than surrounding rural areas. Despite affecting millions of people daily, waste heat from machines and cooling systems is still an under-recognized environmental problem.
