One of the major problems faced by students today is the inability to focus on studies because of excessive use of mobile phones, social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube, and online games. Technology has become an unavoidable part of modern life, and smartphones are now commonly used by students for both educational and entertainment purposes. However, many students gradually become addicted to scrolling through social media feeds, watching short videos, chatting online, and playing games for long hours. These activities consume a significant amount of time and reduce students’ concentration, discipline, and interest in academics. Instead of spending time reading books, completing homework, or revising lessons, students often check notifications repeatedly and become mentally distracted. Social media also creates comparison, stress, and anxiety among students because they constantly observe the lifestyles and achievements of others. Online games, especially multiplayer games, make students emotionally attached and encourage them to spend several hours continuously on their devices. As a result, students may suffer from poor academic performance, lack of sleep, reduced memory power, eye strain, and mental fatigue. Many students are unable to maintain proper study schedules because their attention is divided between studies and digital entertainment. Another serious issue is that students lose face-to-face communication skills and become socially isolated. Parents and teachers are also finding it difficult to control this growing problem because digital devices are easily accessible everywhere.
