Global warming is one of the biggest environmental problems in the world today. It refers to the gradual increase in the Earth’s average temperature due to the excessive release of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. These gases trap heat in the atmosphere, making the planet warmer over time. Human activities like burning fossil fuels, cutting down forests, industrial pollution, and the excessive use of vehicles are the main causes of global warming.
The effects of global warming can be seen all around us. Rising temperatures are causing glaciers and polar ice caps to melt, which leads to an increase in sea levels. Many coastal areas are at risk of flooding because of this. Global warming also causes extreme weather conditions such as heatwaves, heavy rainfall, droughts, cyclones, and forest fires. Changes in climate affect agriculture, water supply, wildlife, and human health. Animals and plants are losing their natural habitats, and some species are becoming endangered.
