Urban areas are expanding rapidly with increasing use of concrete, asphalt, glass, and dark construction materials. However, it is often observed that many cities have limited natural cooling surfaces such as vegetation, shaded areas, and reflective materials.
In many situations, roads, buildings, rooftops, and paved surfaces absorb and retain large amounts of heat during daytime hours. Dense construction and reduced green cover may increase surrounding temperatures and create hotter urban environments compared to nearby natural areas.
I have observed highly built-up areas where concrete surfaces and limited vegetation appear to increase heat intensity, especially during summer conditions. Such environments may affect outdoor comfort, energy usage, and overall urban climate conditions.
Apart from rising temperatures, excessive heat retention may also contribute to reduced air comfort and heat-related stress in densely populated areas. This problem highlights the importance of balanced urban planning, green spaces, and climate-aware infrastructure development.
