Railway tracks often pass through forests, villages, and open areas where animals, humans, vehicles, fallen trees, rocks, or other objects may enter the track. Since trains travel at high speeds and require long braking distances, drivers may not be able to stop in time after spotting an obstacle. Such incidents can lead to collisions, derailments, damage to railway infrastructure, loss of wildlife, injuries, and even loss of human life. Remote railway sections are especially vulnerable because continuous human monitoring is difficult and costly.
A similar challenge exists on mountainous roads with sharp hairpin bends. At these blind turns, drivers cannot see vehicles approaching from the opposite side because their view is blocked by terrain, vegetation, or road geometry. As a result, vehicles may enter the curve simultaneously, creating a high risk of collision. This danger increases during fog, rain, nighttime conditions, or heavy traffic. Large vehicles such as buses and trucks face even greater difficulty due to their size and limited maneuverability.
The core problem in both cases is the lack of real-time awareness of hidden hazards. Existing solutions often depend on human observation, road signs, or limited monitoring systems, which may not provide timely warnings. Consequently, drivers and operators are forced to make decisions with incomplete information.
There is a need for a reliable, cost-effective, and scalable safety solution that can detect hidden obstacles or approaching vehicles beyond the visible range and provide early warnings. Such a system would improve situational awareness, reduce accidents, protect lives, minimize infrastructure damage, and enhance the overall safety of both railway and road transportation networks.
