🌹What is the problem:
Thousands of divers cross India face life threating accidents when buffaloes,cows, stray dogs, or supervised children suddenly and across roads and Highways. Vehicles moving at 40-80 km/h get only 1-2 seconds to react. This forces drivers to either hit the animal / Child, break suddenly and skid,or swerve into other vehicles and roadside objects. 🌹 Why I want to address this/ Motivation:
Last week my uncle was driving through a village road at 50 km/h went to buffaloes suddenly emerged from behind thick bushes. He braked hard the car skidded on gravel, and crashed into a tree. He suffered a leg fracture and the car damage cost ₹80000.Both buffaloes died. The farmer lost animals worth ₹1.2 lakh. I realised that if a small child had run out instead, the outcome would have been fatal. There is currently no affordable warning system to alert drivers before such sudden crossings.
🌹 where does it happen and how frequent:
This occurs daily on village roads,state Highways,National Highways and city outskrits across all states. According to MoRTH 2022 data 8,496 accidents were caused by animals on road, killing 3, 123 people. Drivers report near- miss incidents 2 -3 times per week.point Children playing near unfenced roads add thousands more risk cases.
🌹It is threatening to life:
Yes. High speed impacts cause head injuries, spinal damage, paralysis and death for drivers and passengers. Children and animals are killed instantly in most cases. Sudden braking also triggers multi vehicle pile-ups on highway multiplying casualties.
🌹Financial losses:
A single accident causes, ₹50000 to ₹10 lakh in losses. This includes vehicle repair, hospital bills,lifelong medical care, compensation, and loss of income. Farmers lose cattle worth ₹50,000 to ₹1.5 Lakh per animal. Insurance claims are often rejected when the driver is blamed for negligence. With 20,000 + such cases yearly, national economic loss runs into thousands of crores.
