In Bhopal, thousands of decades-old, mature trees are being rapidly cut down to clear space for major infrastructure expansion, including the 10-lane Ayodhya Bypass widening, Metro rail corridors, and smart city developments. While infrastructure growth is necessary, the current method of replacing massive, fully grown trees with tiny saplings creates an immediate and severe environmental crisis.This rapid loss of green cover has broken local biodiversity, destroyed nesting habitats for urban birds, and eliminated the citys natural air filters. Consequently, residential areas are facing an intense Urban Heat Island effect, causing local summer temperatures to spike unnaturally. Furthermore, the lack of tree barriers has led to a noticeable surge in dust pollution and declining air quality, directly triggering respiratory and breathing issues for nearby residents and daily commuters.
