Many neighbourhood parks and playgrounds are poorly maintained, unsafe, or partially encroached upon. Broken equipment, uneven ground, litter, poor lighting, and lack of fencing make these spaces unusable or risky. Children lose safe places to play, elderly people lose walking spaces, and communities lose healthy outdoor gathering areas. In some localities, the land exists but is not properly maintained, while in others it is gradually occupied by parking, dumping, or construction. The result is a shortage of safe, shared open space in everyday life. This problem is visible, local, and deeply connected to child well-being and community health.
