🧠 Problem Title: In development of Smart cities, does we are destroying rural areas?
📝 Problem Description

The drive to build Smart Cities has become a global obsession, yet it is often pursued through an extractive lens that prioritizes urban expansion over rural preservation. This creates a critical development paradox: we are rapidly building digital metropolises by cannibalizing the very landscapes—our rural heartlands—that provide our food, water, and climate stability.
The core issue lies in the urban-centric bias of current infrastructure investment. Smart City projects focus heavily on high-speed connectivity, IoT-driven traffic management, and centralized energy grids. While these represent impressive technological feats, their implementation frequently relies on the large-scale acquisition of rural land, displacing farming communities and destroying natural ecosystems to house sprawling urban extensions. This is not a smart approach; it is a displacement model that treats villages as mere land banks waiting to be paved over.
This systemic imbalance creates several catastrophic consequences:
1. By concentrating all economic opportunity and digital infrastructure in cities, we catalyze a brain drain. Villages are stripped of their youth and skilled labor, leaving behind aging populations and abandoned fields. This does not solve poverty; it simply shifts it from the field to the city slum.
2. Modern cities function like parasitic organisms, consuming vast amounts of water, timber, and energy from the countryside without replenishing those resources. When we destroy rural land to build cities, we degrade the local ecosystem services like groundwater recharge and soil fertility that protect us from climate change.
3. Our current policies view the rural-urban gap as something to be solved by moving everyone to the city. A truly intelligent model would instead focus on Smart Villages. By applying precision agriculture, localized renewable energy and telemedicine in rural areas, we can make villages economically viable, tech-enabled hubs.
