We all eat fruits to maintain good health. However, many fruits are sold with stickers attached to their surface. Some people forget to remove that sticker off. Even though we peel it out and clean them with water, the gum residues that are used to stick those stickers still remain on the fruits. People may think it is a small sticker and makes no harm due to these gum residues. Generally the stickers face material is made up of plastic film which contains polypropylene and polyvinyl. Glue is used to stick them on fruits. Ink is used on stickers to print information. Every year approximately 50 billion stickers are produced. On an average, every sticker contains 15 milligrams of plastic and 1 milligram of ink. If we calculate for 50 billion stickers, the total plastic usage of stickers is 750 tons and total usage of ink is 50 terms per year. It is observed that by producing these plastic stickers, it releases about 2.5 kilograms of carbon dioxide per 1 kg of plastic. Approximately for 1 year it is observed that 1,875 tons of carbon dioxide is released.
So finally we can conclude that it is not a small sticker anymore, to manufacture this type of stickers tons of plastic is used and to write about information tons of ink, which results in releasing tons of carbon dioxide which causes lots of troubles, disturbances in environment. Through all these studies we can understand the affect of these stickers on environment.
