In mountainous and high-altitude regions such as Kashmir, heavy rainfall, cloudbursts, and rapid snowmelt frequently lead to floods, river overflows, and severe waterlogging. These disasters disrupt transportation, damage homes, schools, roads, and agricultural land, and can result in injuries and loss of life. Floodwaters often isolate communities, delay emergency services, and cause significant economic losses. Due to changing climate patterns, extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and intense, increasing the vulnerability of people living in flood-prone areas. There is a need for an effective early warning system that can detect heavy rainfall and rising water levels in advance, enabling authorities and residents to take preventive measures, evacuate safely, and reduce the impact of floods on lives and property.
